We’re excited to present our first-ever public art opening at The Icehouse in downtown Phoenix. The Icehouse has endured as one of the most recognizable and iconic art spaces in our city, and we’re honored to work with the team at Dialog (with a slight assist from Miki Garcia, Director at the ASU Art Museum) to organize a collaborative show featuring paintings from Aaron Allen Marner and ceramic artworks from Susan Beiner that explore the ways in which our cravings for sustenance and connection are intertwined.
Marner’s paintings are bold and expressive, featuring vibrant colors and bold forms that evoke the emotional intensity of our cravings for belonging, love and touch, while Beiner’s ceramic work bridges the grounded materiality of clay with forms that reflect the rhythms of bodies and nature, and expose concern about the conflict that has arisen between the natural world and culture.
Guests have the option to add an exclusive dinner experience with a special private reception, which will take place in the open-air cathedral room adjacent to The Icehouse gallery and feature a thoughtfully constructed, four-course meal by Cloth & Flame chef Whitney Jacobs.
To expand on the themes explored in the show, interactive art will be woven into the dining experience, designed to deepen guests' understanding and connection to the work. The dinner will offer a unique opportunity to engage with the artists more directly, as well as time to have a more intimate experience with the art itself.
Both the public opening and the dinner will feature mesmerizing sounds from electronic violinist Kimberly Weston played with and over a vinyl DJ set from Recordbar Radio.
The show is free to attend, and the first 200 RSVPs to the free public opening will receive a complimentary drink ticket. Additional drinks are available for purchase, with proceeds supporting Phoenix Pride, a nonprofit organization that supports and empowers the local LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
